OBJECTIVE
The aim of this study was to determine if the association with adiposity varies by the type (added vs. naturally occurring) and form (liquid vs. solid) of dietary sugars consumed.
METHODS
Data from the 10-year National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Growth and Health Study ( = 2,021 girls aged 9-10 years at baseline; = 5,156 paired observations) were used. Using mixed linear models, 1-year changes in sugar intake, body mass index -score (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were assessed.
RESULTS
The results showed mean daily added sugar (AS) intake: 10.3 tsp (41 g) liquid; 11.6 tsp (46 g) solid and naturally occurring sugar intake: 2.6 tsp (10 g) liquid; 2.2 tsp (9 g) solid. Before total energy adjustment, each additional teaspoon of liquid AS was associated with a 0.222-mm increase in WC ( = 0.0003) and a 0.002 increase in BMI ( = 0.003). Each teaspoon of solid AS was associated with a 0.126-mm increase in WC ( = 0.03) and a 0.001 increase in BMI ( = 0.03). Adjusting for total energy, this association was maintained only between liquid AS and WC among all and between solid AS and WC among those overweight/obese only. There was no significant association with naturally occurring sugar.
CONCLUSIONS
These findings demonstrate to suggest a positive association between AS intake (liquid and solid) and BMI that is mediated by total energy intake and an association with WC that is independent of it.

In the updated American Thoracic Society-European Respiratory Society classification of the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs), the major entities have been preserved and grouped into (a) "chronic fibrosing IIPs" (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia), (b) "smoking-related IIPs" (respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease and desquamative interstitial pneumonia), (c) "acute or subacute IIPs" (cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and acute interstitial pneumonia), and (d) "rare IIPs" (lymphoid interstitial pneumonia and idiopathic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis). Furthermore, it has been acknowledged that a final diagnosis is not always achievable, and the category "unclassifiable IIP" has been proposed. The diagnostic interpretation of the IIPs is often challenging because other diseases with a known etiology (most notably, connective tissue disease and hypersensitivity pneumonitis) may show similar morphologic patterns. Indeed, more emphasis has been given to the integration of clinical, computed tomographic (CT), and pathologic findings for multidisciplinary diagnosis. Typical CT-based morphologic patterns are associated with the IIPs, and radiologists play an important role in diagnosis and characterization. Optimal CT quality and a systematic approach are both pivotal for evaluation of IIP. Interobserver variation for the various patterns encountered in the IIPs is an issue. It is important for radiologists to understand the longitudinal behavior of IIPs at serial CT examinations, especially for providing a framework for cases that are unclassifiable or in which a histologic diagnosis cannot be obtained.

BACKGROUND
Following revascularization, most payors require 3 months of medical therapy, followed by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) reassessment, before implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation possibly contributing to incomplete follow-up and suboptimal utilization of ICD therapy. The natural history of these patients, and their fate regarding ICD implantation, is unknown.
HYPOTHESIS
We hypothesized that a waiting period after revascularization for stable CAD results in missed opportunities to provide care with regard to ICD implantation.
METHODS
We followed patients with LVEF ≤ 35% and no ICD who underwent revascularization (coronary artery bypass grafting [CABG] or percutaneous coronary intervention [PCI]) for stable CAD. Follow-up used chart review and scripted telephone interviews.
RESULTS
Among 3164 revascularized patients (2198 [69%] PCI, 966 [31%] CABG), only 62 (2%; 33 [53%] male, age 67 ± 12 y, LVEF 28% ± 6%) had stable CAD, depressed LVEF, and no ICD. Over 35 ± 19 months, 35 (56%) of these 62 patients were no longer candidates for ICD based on improved LVEF, 14 (23%) received an ICD, 5 (8%) declined ICD despite physician recommendation, 3 (5%) were not offered ICD despite continued eligibility, 2 (3%) died, 1 (2%) was not a candidate due to substance abuse, and 1 (2%) had ICD implantation temporarily deferred. Only 1 (2%) was lost to follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS
Following revascularization for stable CAD with depressed LVEF, ≥50% of patients' ventricular function improved enough to make ICD implantation unnecessary. A waiting period after revascularization prior to ICD implantation appears appropriate and does not significantly negatively impact follow-up or the rate of appropriate ICD implantation.

INTRODUCTION
Light and intermittent smoking (LITS) has become increasingly common. Alcohol drinkers are more likely to smoke. We examined the association of smokefree law and bar law coverage and alcohol use with current smoking, LITS, and smoking quit attempts among US adults and alcohol drinkers.
METHODS
Cross-sectional analyses among a population-based sample of US adults (n = 27,731) using restricted data from 2009 National Health Interview Survey and 2009 American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation United States Tobacco Control Database. Multivariate logistic regression models examined the relationship of smokefree law coverage and drinking frequency (1) with current smoking among all adults; (2) with 4 LITS patterns among current smokers; and (3) with smoking quit attempts among 6 smoking subgroups. Same multivariate analyses were conducted but substituted smokefree bar law coverage for smokefree law coverage to investigate the association between smokefree bar laws and the outcomes. Finally we ran the above analyses among alcohol drinkers (n = 16,961) to examine the relationship of smokefree law (and bar law) coverage and binge drinking with the outcomes. All models controlled for demographics and average cigarette price per pack. The interactions of smokefree law (and bar law) coverage and drinking status was examined.
RESULTS
Stronger smokefree law (and bar law) coverage was associated with lower odds of current smoking among all adults and among drinkers, and had the same effect across all drinking and binge drinking subgroups. Increased drinking frequency and binge drinking were related to higher odds of current smoking. Smokefree law (and bar law) coverage and drinking status were not associated with any LITS measures or smoking quit attempts.
CONCLUSIONS
Stronger smokefree laws and bar laws are associated with lower smoking rates across all drinking subgroups, which provides further support for these policies. More strict tobacco control measures might help reduce cigarette consumption and increase quit attempts.
