Overview
Dr. Carolyn Welty is clinical professor who has been with the Division of Geriatrics since 2003. She provides primary care and geriatric consultation to the community and teaches medical trainees at all levels. Carolyn graduated from University of Southern California School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and geriatrics, and has a Master's degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Welty was an assistant professor at Boston University School of medicine for 13 years and clinical associate professor at Wright State University in Ohio for 3 years. She was at Cleveland Clinic for a year prior to coming to UCSF

Clinical Activities
Dr. Welty provides geriatric primary care and consultation at UCSF Center for Geriatric Care for person 70 years and older. UCSF Center for Geriatric Care is one of the few medical practices in San Francisco that focuses on the care of the older adult. The center has a social worker on staff who provides support and community resources for patients and families.
Dr. Welty gives talks to community groups such as senior center at the YMCA at Stonestown, and adult day health programs and assisted living centers. .

Academic Focus
Dr. Welty provides geriatric education primarily through precepting at UCSF Center for Geriatric Care. She gives talks on geriatric topics to medical professionals and the community.
She is the medical director of the Medical-Legal Partnership for Seniors The service provide legal assistance to patients from UCSF practices and associated organizations, as well as interprofessional education between UCSF providers and trainees, and UC Hastings law students.
She has a particular interest in the issue of elder abuse. She has participated in City of San Francisco Elder Death Review Team which looks at deaths in elderly related to suspected abuse or neglect. She has given talks to Adult Protective Services both in San Francisco, and Ukiah, California
